Infectious Disease Modelling Course

  1. Course dates

August 12-14, 2019 (three days)

  1. Venue

Room 825, School of Public Health, Fudan University, Shanghai, China. (Building 8, 130 Dong’an Road, Xuhui District, Shanghai, 200032)

  1. Course overview

Infectious diseases remain a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Mathematical models are increasingly used to understand the transmission of infections and to evaluate the potential impact of intervention programmes, such as vaccination, antiviral use and pandemic preparedness.

The course is organized jointly by Fudan University School of Public Health, the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), and the Hong Kong University School of Public Health (HKU). An emphasis will be placed on developing a conceptual understanding of the basic methods and on their practical applications to inform public health decisions. Participants will also learn practical techniques for economic analysis and phylodynamic analysis of infectious disease data. The methods will be illustrated by hands-on experience of setting up models using R programming. The course is delivered in English.

By the end of the course, participants will have deepened their understanding of infectious disease epidemiology and gained practical experience of the basis of infectious disease modelling, which will be useful for their future work and research.

  1. Who should apply?

The course is designed for individuals interested in expanding their knowledge of the techniques available for analyzing and interpreting epidemiological data on infectious diseases and for predicting the impact of control programmes. Potential participants include medical and health professionals, policy makers, medical statisticians and infectious disease researchers. Applicants should have a good command of English.

  1. How to apply?

The course can offer a place for up to 35 participants and additional 10-15 slots for auditing. Please complete the attached form below to apply, and send your CV and cover letter to the contact email. In the cover letter, please briefly provide your reasons why you are interested in the course. The application deadline is June 30, 2019

The applications will be reviewed by the course organizers. The final list of participants will be contacted by July 15, 2019.

(London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine)以及香港大学公共卫生学院共同主办。
